How do I apply for a garden?

Can I apply for a garden if I don't have a yard?

Unfortunately, we cannot build a garden without a yard, however we can deliver you fresh produce for free once other gardens start producing. Please email us if this is the case!

I am a renter. How do I ask my landlord if a garden is OK?

If you reach out to your landlord, let them know that a raised garden bed does not disrupt the yard other than disrupt the grass it's on, and can be easily removed. Garden beds are not ugly, and can even be a bonus for future tenants! If they have more questions or want to speak to us, please send them our email and website for more information.

I can pay for a garden. How much is it?

Great! We take donations of any kind but in order to build a garden we ask for $200. This money not only goes towards supplies, but helps us build a free garden for a family in need.

I am new to gardening and cooking veggies...how do I do this?

It can seem scary at first to grow your own food, but it is pretty simple! With every garden, we will give you instructions of how to grow and harvest your veggies, as well as a list of tasty recipes!

 

Is this safe? How is this ok with social distancing?

We are taking every precaution when it comes to COVOID19 and social distancing. We are a small team of two, and can come into your backyard through the back gate if you leave it open. You can come wave to us while we build the garden, but don't feel like you need to! Don't touch your raised beds for 48 hours after their construction, as this is how long the virus can stay on surfaces. But feel free to water it with a hose! When we come back to pick up extra veggies, we will wear gloves and masks.

 

I want the garden, but I don't want you to come back and take my veggies. Can I still apply?

We encourage everyone who participates in the program to also participate in gleaning, as then we are feeding the community at large that needs help in these tough times. Most home gardens produce so much food it is impossible to eat it all before it rots. However, if you are uncomfortable with that, we respect your needs and still encourage you to apply. 
 

How do I get involved?

There are so many ways you can get involved. You can grow starters on SEED TEAM, You can donate, you can tell your friends, you can donate materials, or once the produce comes to fruition, you can help us distribute the food. (While maintaining healthy social distance, of course!)

Do you do custom gardens or other yard work?

No. We make the same garden for everyone, although we let you pick what veggies are in it. This keeps it simple for us and allows us to make as many as we can.
